Grace Home #2 School Sponsored by: Founding Family Grace Home #2 began in January 2005 as a response by the Woodmont Hills Family of God to provide long term care for orphans of the December 2004 tsunami. The structure was built during the 2005 calendar year, and it now houses 100 orphans. It was built on 4.5 acres that was purchased previously for the purpose of building a school to provide the education needs of seven (7) villages near the city of Vizianagaram, A. P., India. Another primary purpose of the school was to produce an avenue for sharing the gospel in that region.
The school is presently being built adjacent to the orphanage. The 100 orphans will be able to attend the school without paying fees. There will be another 350 seats available for children from the surrounding seven villages. They will pay minimal school fees because Founding Family Foundation is already providing the infrastructure. The school fees will pay for teachers’ salaries, curricular needs, utilities and maintenance on the building, regular school materials, and custodial services.
The school is planned as an English Medium school; therefore, students will learn all subjects through the English language. This will eventually provide better jobs for these poor children because of this valuable language acquisition. A vision is to have American college students come to the school to teach as a part of their university preparation in combination with mission outreach. Several universities are being contacted that have shown an interest in this type of liaison with the Grace Home school. Five apartments are being built on the third floor of the Grace Home orphanage. They will be able to house up to ten (10) college students.
Several needs still exist for the completion of this project. The apartments are not fully funded, so some expense still exists for their construction. Initial furniture and curricular materials must be purchased for the school. Kindergarten will begin in June 2006. The entire elementary school will begin in June 2007 with higher grades being added as the need arises. | |
